The skin, the largest organ in our body

Many of us tend to forget that the skin is the largest organ in our body.

After we lather our skin with body creams some of the ingredients are absorbed and passed into our blood stream. We never really think about this and spend a lot of money on expensive creams. Creams that smell very good, but are full of chemicals. Guilty? I've done it too!

However, over the last year, I've tried to be more conscious of the things I put on my body. I no longer use VS body creams or body butters. These days I rely on sheer or cocoa butter to use on my skin, but I don’t use them alone. I’ve learned to mix them with Lovacado, extra virgin avocado oil.  By doing this, I’m adding an extra layer of moisture to my skin.  Watch the video and see how Allison mixes her Lovacado oil with her daily moisturizer below.

Lovacado, extra virgin avocado oil can be used alone, or mixed with your body creams to add a soothing and softening effect. Use it right after you take a shower to lock in moisture. No matter how you use Lovacado, it will change your skin for the better. Try it out and let me know.

In my next blog I'll be showing you how to use Lovacado as the main ingredient for skin and hair masks.

Fall in love with your hair.....

We colour, straighten, use hot rollers, blow-dry, iron, and add a bunch of chemicals to our hair on a regular basis. The worst thing is that we know we’re doing the wrong thing, but we can’t let the gray hair show or walk out of the house with wet or un-done hair, it’s impossible.

So, instead of feeling guilty and hoping that our hair will forgive our faults and not fall off or start thinning when we least expect it, we need to do take some serious action. There are plenty of hair treatments, but most of them contain chemicals and they’re just covering up the damaged hair. The hair looks good while you use the product, but the minute you stop using it, the damage is visible again.

As you read in my first blog, I created Lovacado to help with my hair "issues". How does Lovacado work? Lovacado, extra virgin avocado oil nourishes your hair down to the roots. It’s amazing how you notice the results the first day you use it. Applying Lovacado to your hair will improve the texture and appearance while strengthening and moisturizing the strands. In addition, massaging Lovacado into your scalp stimulates circulation and allows it to penetrate in deeply, providing beneficial nutrients, unclogging blocked follicles and, it is reported for many people, stimulating new growth.

There are a few rules you must abide by in order to see the results of using Lovacado. We all have different hair types and different hair problems, but the good thing is that all hair types benefit from this product. Start by using a very small amount of Lovacado oil. If you hair is very thin and limp, the minute you add the oil, it will weight it down. So, don’t use the oil directly on the hair, mix it with your shampoo, or use it as a leave-in hair treatment twice a week, and measure the results. WE all do it, we feel that if we use more of a specific product we’ll see faster results, and as with many products, Lovacado is not the exception. More is not necessarily better.

If your hair is thick, dry, and long by all means use a generous amount, but start with a few drops and see how much more your hair can take. I certainly recommend that the first time you use Lovacado, you do it a day that you’re home and not going anywhere important or that you’re okay with putting your hair up in a ponytail, in case you use too much oil and can’t bother to wash it off. Usually, people use too much oil the first time, but they do see the results and quickly learn how to use the correct amount for their hair type. Keep in mind that if you have oily hair you don’t want to put the oil in your scalp, you want to use the oil in the ends of your hair, or mix it with your shampoo or use as leave-in hair treatment. Last, but not least, you can use Lovacado to tame flyaway hair after blow-drying or using your flat iron. Use a very minimal amount and this will add shine as well.

After a while, you'll notice your hair getting stronger, feeling smoother, and shining more than you've seen it in while. You'll fall in love with your hair again, in no time.

Come back next week to learn how Lovacado moisturizes and does wonders for your skin.  In the mean time go grab an avocado and eat it, you can start improving your hair and skin from the inside out.

How Lovacado was created..a true story

Sunday, October 13, 2013
Last year I was going through a hair crisis. It was dry, thinning and I was shedding more than my dog. After a couple of years highlighting my hair and blow-drying every other day, my hair was in desperate need of "therapy". I did not know what to do and I turned to my aunt Mary, who has a list a mile long of natural home remedies and concoctions. I was born in Colombia, so my aunt who lives there has inherited my grandmother's home remedies. When I told her about my problem, she urged me to buy avocados and prepare some type of hair mask.

I vaguely remember seeing some of my aunts back when I was a little girl with a plastic bag on their head covering some green "gooey" cream. It all makes sense now, but I just didn't have the time to go through the whole process. Being more practical, I decided to find out if there were any avocado products online for hair. It turned out that there was actually avocado oil being sold for hair and skin use. I'm a bit "picky"- okay difficult, when it comes to putting things in my hair, especially knowing that my hair was in such a fragile state. I didn't want to put something in my hair without being a 100% sure that it was going to help, not make it worst. I bought a few products, but soon realized that the smell was not very good. I love avocados and can eat them without a problem, but the smell of the oil was not very appealing. Then it turned out that there was refined avocado oil (which is the cheap type, light yellow, and sold in clear plastic containers). I used refined oil once and it was not a good experience. I put too much, then when I tried to wash it off it didn't come off easily and it made my hair dull. So, I went back and learned that there are different types of avocado oils, pretty much very similar to Olive Oil. Some avocado oil is extra virgin and green in colour, and also unrefined. This was all new to me, so I kept doing more research and finally learned a few key things regarding avocado oil:
1) Unrefined oil means that it maintains all properties of the avocado fruit. It needs to be stored in a dry cool place and away from the light. If it's exposed to the light, it can go rancid after a few weeks. Refined avocado oil has been through a process that strips away some of the nutrients and by doing this the oil is able to have a longer shelf live and can be exposed to light without going rancid, but it's not as pure anymore, thus the reason it's cheaper to buy.
2) Extra virgin avocado oil is better than regular avocado oil. This type of oil maintains the highest quality of avocado nutrients. It tends to be more expensive and it's great for salads and mostly it is sold as gourmet oil for cooking.

As I continued my search, I finally got a good source of avocado oil (unrefined and extra virgin), but I didn't like the smell. I used the oil, but had to do something about the odour. Doing my research regarding avocado oil had taken me to the land of therapeutic oils and essential oils. Many websites recommended blending avocado oil with different fragrances, essential oils and perfumes. Now, I had to learn about fragrances, perfumes, and essential oils.  My research taught me that, fragrances where chemically made, just as perfumes and other fragrance oils. I wanted something natural for my hair, so those products were out of the question. Then I learned that essential oils were 100% pure and even found some to be certified organic.

My oils arrived and I began blending, mixing, and trying different scents. My little hair drama had turned me into an avocado oil freak. I kept avocado oils and essential oils in my washroom, kitchen and even the bedroom. I was always experimenting until I finally felt I had the perfect product for my hair. After many months of playing around with the oils, it turned out I was able to make the perfect combination. It wasn't rocket science, some other people had similar products for sale, but I really felt that my product was different. I had made it myself and I had used only the best products. I started to use it and in a matter of days I could see and feel the difference in my hair. I was so happy with the results that I started to tell my family and friends about it. It generated a lot of interest and I started to get some really good feedback on the avocado oil. Seeing that there was a need and an interest from people that I knew my entrepreneur side started to get a crazy idea. What if I create a business and market this product?

A year later, after all my hair drama and endless research in regards to the world of avocado,LovacadoInc. was created. Lovacado, extra virgin avocado oil for skin and hair. Yes, skin and hair….come back next week to learn more on the many uses of Lovacado. I'll be sharing all my knowledge in this blog.
